Some of us, however, may be able to look at a photo freely and openly, and, as in meditation, to give oneself up to the photo, to immerse oneself in the picture. Only then will we discover colours and shapes that were invisible before: we see light permeating leaves; a tree or a group of trees, delicately huddling together and creating a marvellous pattern; a dewy leave; a staring eye wanting to drag us into its bright watery universe; a sceptic look coming from a rugged and yet fine featured face; cigarette ashes looking like fine dessert sand or volcanic rocks. The photo is created through the viewer’s imaginative eye.

Does this matter? Is this important? Is a moment important, a sun beam?

Soon we may not see the photo anymore at all but be lost to memories evoked by the picture. We feel, all off a sudden, the paralyzing heat of a hot summer’s day, the air drenched with sunlight. Looking at the photo again, we are still permeated by this feeling.

Words can be broken, like matches, thoughts are like nervous and erratic arrows trying to break through the thicket of inaccessible people, impenetrable nature. In looking at photos, showing seemingly simple motifs we can gather ourselves again. By taking as much time as we need, we recover our balance.
